From the Archives: View from The Dakota, 1890

Joshua Gat, who has been active with the Block Association for over 30 years, has shared some archival images of the neighborhood that he has collected. The bulk of them will be published in a later post, but first, above is the incredible view from the newly built Dakota at 72nd and Central Park West in 1890.

It is interesting to pair the image with one via Wikipedia from an opposite angle during the same year (below).

    Wow. What amazing pictures! I’ve never seen the top one before and it does make you realize how grand the Dakota was as compared to the rest of the neighborhood in those days. Thanks Adrienne.
